5 Things you should know about Wedding Makeup

Dear Brides-to-Be,

Have you ever wondered how to prep your skin for your wedding day so the makeup looks flawless and lasts for hours?!? ✨

Believe me when I say that I worry for your makeup just as much as you mainly because a good makeup artist can save photographers hours of retouching. But even a great makeup artist can’t do anything if you haven’t taken care of your skin beforehand.

And that’s why I have interviewed the immensely talented Zareen Shah 💄
She’s always my go-to gal for makeup products recommendations. Zareen is one of the top makeup artist in Dubai with over 19 years of experience & has very well earned Cosmopolitan Beauty Blogger award in 2017.

Zareen believes that planning a wedding can take its toll on a bride and its very natural to have sleepless nights and the occasional breakout closer towards the date. The stress of planning and preparing for such a momentous day can affect the skin by making it look tired or dull.

Here are 5 things that a pro makeup artist wants you to know for prepping your skin & have flawless makeup that lasts for 6-8 hours on your wedding.

5 things Makeup Artist Jpg

  1. Avoid dehydration. As a bride, keep in mind, that the way you’re make up looks, all depends on how well you take care of your skin in the days leading up. Avoid your skin from looking dry, dehydrated or patchy by increasing your intake of water. Zareen highly suggest brides to up their water consumption as it helps to detoxify the body and in turn aids the skin in looking fresh and hydrated.

  2. Avoid getting facials at least 10 days prior to the wedding date. Some skin types need a few days to recover and may slightly peel a week into having a facial. Best to avoid all of this, especially on a day where you need your makeup to stay put and fresh for a good 6-8 hrs.

  3. Do not try any new products closer towards your wedding date. If you’ve never waxed your face, or had facial laser, or tried a certain beauty treatment, please do not become daring or adventurous to take the plunge. Stress can affect the skin in various ways and you have no idea how your skin may react. Zareen had a bride who decided to wax her facial hair 2 days before her wedding day and she broke out with these tiny white bumps across her entire face and no makeup in the entire world could fix that.

  4. Avoid using HD setting powders to ‘bake’ under your eyes especially if, God forbid, you are planning on doing your own makeup during your wedding day. These HD powders create lots of flashback particularly with flash photography. Photos can always be retouched, however that doesn’t apply to videos, so best to stay away from them. If you tend to have more of a combination or T-zone, Zareen suggests opting for blotting papers instead of using powders. This way, you’re able to keep your skin matte, without smudging the makeup, and without having to add anything extra on top.

  5. Avoid lip gloss at all cost! whether you are doing your own makeup or booked a professional for your event, brides are hugged & kissed by close friends and family. There’s always a possibility of having hair streaks across the side of your cheeks  when they touch your lips or small smudges across the mouth. Stick to long lasting lipsticks and if you still want a creamier finish, add a lip balm or ointment on top.

Thank you Zareen for sharing such beneficial tips with the future brides!

Self-care is a diving responsibility, darling brides. I hope these extremely useful tips by Zareen help you in achieving that picture-perfect skin & makeup that lasts perpetually. May your skin glows as much as your personality because…

Glowing skin is always in!!! ✨
